Treaty of San Stefano

The Treaty of San Stefano is signed on March 5th between Russia and the Ottoman Empire. The treaty brought to an end a war between the parties begun the year before when Russia declared war on the Ottomans. The Russian were successful on the battlefield and the Ottomans were forced to sue for peace. Under the terms of the agreement Romania, Montenegran and Serbia are assured independence, while reforms are promised in Bosnia and Herzogovina and Bulgaria.
