The Reconstruction Period

The following events represent the major events that took place in the United States between 1865 and 1879. Its called Reconstruction which represents the reconstuction of the South, but it was also a period of invention and industrial development

13th Amendment Passed

Passed on December 18th 1865 it ended slavery in the UD

Tennessee Readmited to Union

Tennessee became the first southern state to be readmitted

Black Codes

The codes were introduced to maintain control over the former slaves

Reconstruction Act

Designed to remake the South using Federal troops

The best bargain in US history when US bought Alaska

14th Amendment

An amendement to the constittuion that guaranteed rights to all

The US Navy was created by an act of the Continental Congress

An amendment to guarantee voting rights to African Americans

The East and West Coast were now tied together wiht a ribbon of steel

Battle of Black Kettle Island

The same day the Colonist declared their independence the British began a campaign that captured New York

Black Friday

The British began an offensive in the North it would end at Saratoga

Women Granted Right to Vote in Wyoming

Wyoming became the first state to give women the right to vote

Standard Oil Founded

The largest oil company in history was founded by John D Rockefeller

Treaty of Washington

This treaty between the US and Great Britain settled all claims between the countries

The most famous fire in United States history. It destroyed Chicago
