Nancy Pelosi Speaker of the House

On January 4h Nancy Pelosi was sworn in as Speaker of the House. She became the first speaker in American history who is a women. The speakers of the House presides over the House. The speaker is also the third in line to become President. Pelosi became President as a result of Democratic sweep of the 2006 midterm elections. Pelosi was 66 when she became Speaker and had been in the house since 1987
