Elizabeth Blackwell Earns a Medical Degree

Elizabeth Blackwell earned a medical dgree from Geneva Medical College, thus becoming the first woman to graduate from a Medical College in the United States. The Boston Medical and Surgical Journal wrote: "It is to be regretted that she has been induced to depart from the appropriate sphere of her sex and led to aspire to honors and duties which by the order of nature and the common consent of the world, devolve alone upon men."
