At 11:00 AM the Presdient met with Vermont's Governor and Republican co-chair of the National Governors association. The purpose of the meeting was to promote enlist the governor in promoting the economic stimulus package. Remarks before meeting

At 1:50 PM the President and Vice President met with Secretary of Defense Gates.

At 4:45 the President met with the democratic leaders of Congress to strategize on how to pass the stimulus package.

In the course of the day the Presdient publically supported the nomination of the Senator Daschle whose nomination was in trouble due to his report that he had failed to pay income tax on a car given him to use after he left the Senate.

First Lady Michelle Obama vistied the Department of Education in the afternoon to show her support for the employeees of the Department. She stated that this will be the first of many visits that the first lady will make to different departments of the government. Remarks
