Day Eight January 28, 2009

President Obama began the day with a meeting with leaders of the business community. The goal of the meeting was to consolidate support for the economic stimulus package. At the end of the meeting the president made remarks to reporters. Obama's Remarks

In the afternoon the President traveled to the Pentagon and met with Joint Chief of Staff in the secure briefing area called the tank. After his meeting the President made brief remarks to the press in which he stated: "We're going to have some difficult decisions that weĂ­re going to have to make surrounding Iraq and Afghanistan most immediately." Obama said. "Obviously, our efforts to continue to go after extremist organizations that would do harm to the homeland is uppermost in our minds.

I have every confidence that our military is going to do their job, and I intend to make sure that the civilian side of the ledger does its job to support what they are doing,"

In the evening Obama received word that the House of Representatives had passed the economic stimulus package. The package passed with no Republican votes.

In the evening the President had a cocktails with leaders of Congress.
