The President began his day with his daily economc and security briefings. The President then had his first full cabinet meeting of the administration. The American Presidency has gone a long way from the days that it was the cabinet that met and decided important issues. At the meeting the President asked every department to try to cut $100 million from their budget over the next six months.

The President in the afternoon traveled to the CIA headquarters and met with the senior staff to discuss the roll of teh CIA. The meetings took place in the aftermath of the administration making public memo that authorized torture. The President made it clear that he opposed the bringing of criminal chages against members of the CIA if they engaged in authorized torture.
