Against the background of ever worsening ecnonomic news Presdient Obama presented a new policy for car emmissions. The plan calls for accelerating the gas mileage requirments passed by Congress from 2020 to 2011. Obama called for a quick passage of the stimulas package. Obama's Remarks

Later in the day the President appreared on camera briefly with Secretary of State Clinton and Senator Mitchell, before Mitchell's trip to the Middle East. He stated that he understood that Mitchell's mission is difficult, but stated that it is important to the United States and to him personally that progress is made.
