The Golden Years

1921 Aircraft Sink US Battleship

The US Battleship Alabama was sunk on a September 23rd by the Army Air Service. The battleship which had to be destroyed any was used as a test of the effectiveness of planes against ships. Leading the attack was Brigadier General Billy Mitchell. Mitchell claimed that surface ships were doomed when facing aircraft.
