The Golden Years

1934 Air Mail Contract Suspended

By 1934 the airline industry was rapidly developing thanks to the air mail contracts that it was being awarded. The contracts were often awarded on a non-competative basis and were quickly establishing monopolies in different areas. President Roosevelt ordered the suspension of all air mail contracts and ordered the army to begin flying the mail.
