The Golden Years


1939 Passenger Service Across the Atlantic

On May 20th Pan Am began regulary scheduled air service across the Atlantic. The fligth took three days and included stops at the Azores, Lisbon and maisailles, terminating in Southhanmpton. The British began weekly service on August 11th. Pan Ma soon cut the flight time to 27 hours by flying via the North Atlantic weather permitted. Pan Am flew Boeing 314 flying boats.
