The United States began its attack on Iraq with air raids on Bagdad with both aircraft and cruise missiles. The US Airforce and Navy used precision guided missiles with great success. Theground assault waited until the air assault had achieved its goals before proceeding. The airforces only failure in the war was its inability to destroy the Scud missiles that Iraq was launching against both Israel and Saudi Arabia
