Test Ban Treaty Signed -1963
The fact that the world had come painfully close to nuclear conflagration during the Cuban Missile Crisis seemed to spur the Americans and the Soviets to reach an agreement on nuclear testing and non-proliferation.

On August 5th, 1963, the United States and the Soviet Union signed an agreement banning the testing of nuclear weapons in the air or in the water. They also agreed not to help other countries acquire weapons. This was the first negotiated agreement on nuclear weapons between the super powers.
