Nominated: Benjamin Harrison of Indiana for President
Nominated: Whitelaw Reid for Vice President
Shortly before the Republican convention James Blain Harrison's Secretary of State resigned. He then mounted a last minute campaign to acheive the nomination. It was not effective. On the first ballot Harrison received 535 1/4 votes, 182 1/4 for Blaine and 182 for McKinley.
