US Pre War Aircraft

1909- US Army Air Corps Place First Order for Flyer

On the evening of July 27th, Oriville Wright flew a Wright biplane 70 times around F Meyers drill field, thus exceeding the army specificaitons for an aircraft. The lfight lasted for one hour and 12 minutes at a speed exceeding the specified speed of 40 MPH. As a result, the army ordered one plane at a cost of $30,000
