1917- Allenby Captures Palestine
The British captured Palestine, as part of its campaign against the Ottomans. Great Britain issued the Balfour Declaration prior to their taking control of Palestine. The Balfour Declaration stated that the British government favored "the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people and will use their best endeavors to facilitate the achievement of that object, it being clearly understood that nothing shall be done which may prejudice the civil and religious right of existence."
