November 1961- President Kennedy's Schedule


 

1 The President meet with McGeorge Bundy. He then traveled to St Mathews Church for All Saints Day Services. President Kennedy met with Congressman Henry Reuse of Wisconsin. After Lunch the President met with the US Ambassador to Senegal and relevant state department officials. Late in the afternoon the President met with Former President Truman. In the evening President Truman gave a dinner in honor of President Truman.
2 The President signed the Interstate Federal Compact for the Delaware River Basin. The President then hosted a National Security Council Meeting. After the meeting in which the President was told that the Soviets could surpass the US if they resumed atmospheric testing and the US did not- the President announced that the US would resume atmospheric testing. The President traveled to New York City and then to Trenton where he endorsed Judge Hughes to become the governor of New Jersey.
3 President Kennedy opened his day with a meeting with McGeorge Bundy and Foy Kohler. After arriving in his office the President held a meeting on South Asia, attending the meeting were Phillips Talbout, Harlan Cleveland and Kenneth Galbriath the Ambassador to India. The President went to the MATS terminal to meet President Leopold Senghor of Senegal. The two Presidents rode to the White House and held a meeting. The President next had an off the record meeting with:RFK, George Ball, Wymberly Coerr, Alexis Johnson, Robert Hurwitch, JC King, General Cabell, Richard Bissell, Robert Amorun and McGeorge Bundy. President Kennedy then hosted a luncheon in honor of President Leopold Senghor of Senegal. The President met with General Maxwell Taylor to report on his trip to the Southeast Asia. The President met with US Ambassador to Venezuela.
4 The President traveled to Hyannis Port. Upon arriving the President and his family when boating on the Marlin.
5 The President and the First Lady attended mass at St Francis Xavier Church. The First Family traveled to Newport Rhode Island where they went boating.
6 The President sailed to the Naval Air Station at Quonset Point to welcome Indian Prime Minister Jawaharla Nehru. The Indian Prime Minister returned with the President to Hammersmith Farm. Newport, Rhode Island. There the President hosted a luncheon in honor of the Indian Prime Minister. In the evening the President and the First Family as well as Prime Minister Nehru and Mrs Nehru flew to Washington were they were officially welcomed
7 The President began his day with meeting with Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru of India. The President then met with Senator Humphrey. In the afternoon the President met with General Lauri Norstad Supreme Commander, Allied Powers Europe, Robert McNamara and General Maxwell Taylor. The President had an off the record meeting with William White. In the evening the President and First Lady hosted a dinner in honor of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru of India.
8 The President began his day with a meeting with George Meaney of the AFL-CIO. He then had and additional meeting with Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru of India. In the afternoon the President gave a press conference. The President had an off the record meeting with John S Knight
9 President Kennedy began his day with a Cabinet Meeting. Next the Commission on Campaign Financing met with the President. The President had a phone conference with Prime Minister Macmillan of Great Britain. The President had an afternoon meeting with Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. The President had a meeting with Averell Harriman. In the evening the President and Mrs. Kennedy were honored with a dinner given by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru at the Embassy of India.
10 The President first met with his military advisors. and then with David Bell, Dr Jerome Wiesner and McGeorge Bundy. President Kennedy met with Fulton Freeman Ambassador to Colombia. After lunch the President met with Livingston Merchant Ambassador to Canada. President Kennedy ended his official day meeting with George Sokolsky from the New York Herald.
11 The President went to Arlington National Cemetery were he gave an address at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in honor or Veterans Day. In the afternoon the President met with Dean Rusk, Robert McNamara, Lyman Lemnitzer and General Maxwell Taylor.
12 The President attended church at St Stephens Church. The President and First Lady traveled to Camp David were they spent the day.
13 The President returned to Washington were he began his day with a meeting on Kora that included Samuel D Berger the US Ambassador to Korea. The President the greeted the Board of Trustees of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations. After lunch the President met with the Cellist Pablo Cassals. The President then met with George Ball. He then met with large delegation of labor leaders. In the evening the President and the First Lady gave a dinner in honor of Governor and Mrs Muonoz of Puerto Rico.
14 The President began his day with a meeting with Congressman John Dent. He then had an off the record meeting with John McCone, Allen Dulles and General Maxwell Taylor. He then had an off the record meeting with David Bell, Maxwell Taylor, McGeorge Bundy, Carl Kaysen and Theodore Sorensen. The President met first with a group connected to National Retarded Children's Week, and then with the Board of Trustees of the National Cultural Center. The President then had a luncheon for General Chung Hee Park of South Korea. In the afternoon the President met with the Korean delegation. The President had an off the record meeting with:Rusk, McNamara, Taylor, Sorensen, Bundy, Wiesner, Bell and Haysen.
15 The first significant meeting of the day for the President was a meeting with the National Security Council to discuss South East Asia and China. The President met with Hugh Carleton Greene of the BBC. He then had a off the record meeting with Averell Harriman and McGeorge Bundy. The President had lunch with Dean Acheson. The President had a final meeting with Korean Leader General Chung Hee Park. The President had an off the record meeting with John Oakes.
16 The President traveled to Seattle Washington. The President gave an address at the University of Washington. In the evening the President spoke at a dinner given in honor of Senator Warren Magnuson.
17 The President traveled to Phoenix Arizona. In Phoenix the President spoke at a dinner honoring Senator Carl Hayden.
18 The President flew to Bonham Texas to attend the funeral of House Speaker Sam Rayburn. The President then flew to Los Angeles CA. There he attended a reception in his honor at the Beverly Hills Hilton. The President then attended a dinner in his honor given in his honor by the Southern California Democratic Committee,
19 The President went to church at the Good Shepard Church. The President then went to the home of Peter Lawford were a luncheon was given in his honor. The President returned to Washington on an overnight flight.
20 The President began the day with a meeting with Senator Thomas Dodd. The President then met with a delegation from Belgium led by the Foreign Minister Paul Henri Spaak. The President then met with the Citizen Committee for a National Trade Policy. The President then met over lunch with Rusk, General Lucious Clay, Dr Henry Kissinger and other in preparation for his meeting with Chancellor Adenauer. The President then met with Chancellor Adenauer and his party. The President then had off the record meetings with RFK, And General Maxwell Taylor. His final meeting of the day was with Congresswoman Edith Green.
21 President Kennedy met with Minister Defense of India and others from an Indian delegation. He then met with Chancellor Adenauer and his party. The President gave a luncheon in honor of Chancellor Adenauer. The President then met with members of the National Conference of Christians and Jews. The President then met with John McCone, RFK, and General Edward Lansdale. The President then had another meeting with Chancellor Adenauer. In the evening the President attended a Black Tie dinner in his honor given by Chancellor Adenauer.
22 The President began the day with an off the record meeting with RFK and Clark Clifford. The President then met once again with Chancellor Adenauer. The President then met with the Members of the US Commission on Civil Rights. After lunch the President met with Dr Wiesner. The President traveled to Hyannis Port.
23 The President spent Thanksgiving in Hyannis Port. The President had a meeting with a large number of advisors on defense matters to discuss the proposed UN resolution on the use of nuclear weapons.
24 The President who was in Hyannis Port had a meeting with a large number of advisors on defense matters to discuss the proposed UN resolution on the use of nuclear weapons.
25 The President gave an interview to Premier Khrushchev's son-in-law, Soviet journalist Aleksei Adzhubei in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts.
26 The President and First Lady attended church at St Francis Xavier Church. The President and First Family went ice skating. In the evening President and Mrs. Kennedy, and Lemoyne Billings visit Ambassador Joseph P. Kennedy's residence.
27 The President returned to Washington. His first meeting was with David Bell, McGeorge Bund, Elmer Staats and Theodore Sorensen. The President met with the US Ambassador to Portugal. In the Afternoon the President met with the US Ambassador to Brazil. The President the met with the personal representative of the King of Ambassador. The Presidnet ended his day with an off the record meeting with Rusk, Alexix Johnson, McNamara, Bundy, Lemnitzer, Lansdale, Hamilton, Dulles, Taylor, Rostow and Bundy.
28 The President started his day by traveiling to the CIA headquarters were he gave the National Security Medal to Allen Dulles on his retirement. The President presented the 1961 Harmon International Trophy for Aviators. The President then participated in a ceremony establishing the Dag Hammarskjold Chair of Government and Law at teh National School of Law and Administration in Leopoldville. The President met Ambassador Galo Plaza the special representative of the President of Ecuador. The President met with John Connally the Secretary of the Navy.
29 The President had breakfast with Rusk, Heller, Bundy, Salinger and Sorensen. The President then held a Press Conference. After the press conference the President met with Governor Hughes of New Jersey. The President then attended the swearing in ceremony of the new Director of the CIA John McCone. The President received the winners of the Rockefeller Public Service Award. The President met with the Ambassador of the Cameroons. The President then met with Walter Heller, McGeorge Bundy, Theodore Sorenson, James Tobin and Gordan. After Lunch the President then met with the Monetary Policy Group. The President dropped in on the inaugural meeting of the Inter-American Economic and Social Council. After returning to the White House thte President met with Dr Edward Teller and then he met with John Fischer of Harper's Magazine.
30 The President met with Admiral George Anderson the Chief of Naval Operations and Admiral Charles Griffin the Commander of the 7th fleet. The President then met with McGeorge Bundy, General Maxwell Taylor and General Chester Clifton. The President then met with Hans A Bethe and Dr Jerome Wiesner. A group of army commanders called on the President. The President then had an off the record meeting with Robert Thompson of the NY Daily News. The President met with William Degald the US Ambassador to Australia . Then Kennedy met with the President's Committee on Equal Employment Opportunity. The President then met with Atomic Energy Commission.
