February 1962- President Kennedy's Schedule

1 The President began his day with a meeting with Senator Ben Smith. He then had a meeting with Dr Jerome Wiesner. The President then met with Jack Beatty. The President hosted Robert Kennedy and 4 of his children in the oval office. His Brother Ted joined them. The Members of Foreign Policy Association presented the President with their Great Decision 1962 Fact Sheet. The President then me with Ambassador of Guinea. Next the President met with Elizabeth Smith the Treasurer of the United States. After a swim the President went to the South Lawn to greets Dean Rusk on Rusk's return from Punta del Este, Uruguay. The President had a meeting with Senators, Engle, McGee, Moss, Young and Congressman King and Peterson. The President had an off the record dinner with Max Friedman, Mrs Joan Ellistian and Edmond Gallion the US Ambassador to the Congo.
2 The President began his meeting with General Maxwell Taylor and McGeorge Bundy. The President had a meeting with Thomas Fineletter the US Ambassador to NATO. The President had back to back ceremonies for the Heart of the Year Award and the swearing in ceremony of navy nurses. Lae in the afternoon the President had back to back security meetings on Vietnam and Germany.
3 The President met with the British Ambassador David Ormsby-Gore. The President spent the rest of the morning meeting with his advisors. In the afternoon he flew to Glen Ora.
4 The President and Mrs. Kennedy attend Mass at Middleburg, Virginia Community Center and return to Glen Ora. The President and the First Lady hosted Mr and Mrs Franklin D Roosevelt Jr.
5 The President returned to Washington. The President then met with Astronaut John Glenn. The President then had an off the record meeting with Abraham Ribicoff, William Cohen, Theodore Sorensen and Lee White. The President hosted a luncheon in honor of Cyrille Aboula the Prime Minister of the Republic of Congo. After the luncheon the President met with the Prime Minister of Congo.
6 The President began his day with a Legislative Leaders Breakfast. The President had a meeting with Dirk M. Stikker, Secretary General of NATO. The President met with the US Ambassador to Argentina. The President met with Chester Bowles. After Lunch the President met with Adlai Stevenson. The President met with Lincoln Gordon the US Ambassador to Brazil.
7 President Kennedy had a breakfast meeting with LBJ, Dean Rusk, Sorensen, McGeorge Bundy, Salinger, Heller, and Feldman. The President witnessed the signing of Plans for Progress. The President had a meeting with William Carr the Executive Secretary of the National Education Assoc and Sterling McMurrin the Commissioner of Education. The President then met with the Ambassador to Tunisia followed by the US Ambassador to Syria. The President then had a meeting to discuss Radio Free Europe. After Lunch the President Motored to the State Department to give a Press Conference. Late in the afternoon the President met with Dean Rusk, Foy Kohler, Roger Hilsman,McGeorge Bundy. The President had an off the record meeting with Steward Alsop.
8 The President began his day with a Cabinet Meeting. After the cabinet meeting the President met with General Laurences Kuter the Commander in Chief of Norad and General Lyman Lemnitzer. the President met with Congressmen Jim Wright and Graham Purcell of Texas. Then the President met with John Moore Cabot the US Ambassador to Poland. The President then met with representatives of the Boy Scouts and then with the US Ambassador to the Republic of the Congo. The President met after lunch with Douglas Dillon then Luther Hodges and then Gen. Maxwell Taylor and John McCone. In the evening the President had a private dinner with Mr and Mrs Sargent Shriver and and Mr and Mrs Peter Lawford.
9 President Kennedy began his day with a meeting with John McCone, General Maxwell Taylor McGeorge Bundy and Pierre Salinger. The President next met with Congressman Mendel Rivers. The President then had a meeting with Retired Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staffs Nathan Twinnig. the President had a meeting with the US Ambassador to Greece. The President met with Dr Emanuel Piore the head of the Science Advisory Committee. After lunch the President met with Dean Rusk, McGeorge Bundy, Foy Kohler, Charles Bohlen, Martin Hillenbrand, and Maxwell Taylor.
10 The President began his day with a meeting with Meeting with George McGhee, George Ball, G. Mennen Williams, Abram Chayes, and Ralph Dungan. After meeting with his advisors the President traveled to Glen Ora.
11 President and Mrs. Kennedy and the Radziwills attend Mass at the Middleburg, Virginia, Community Church and return to Glen Ora.
12 The President returned to Washington. He met with a meeting of the status of women led by former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. He then met directly with the Former First Lady. The President then met with John Steeves the newly appointed US Ambassador to Afghanistan. The President then meet Dean Rusk, Foy Kohler Chester Bowles and George Ball. In the afternoon the President met with Arthur Goldberg and then with Averell Harriman, General Maxwell Taylor and McGeorge Bundy.
13 President Kennedy met with Former President Harry Truman. He then met with Defense Secretary McNamara. He then met with Robert Koner. The President then met with Secretary of Interior Steward Udall. The President next met with Commissioner Loren Olson. The President traveled to Andrews Airforce Base to greet Al Aiz Al Saud, King of Saudi Arabia. The President accompanied the Saudi King to Blair House and then he returned to the White House. One hour later the Saudi King came over to the White House and they President met with the King and his party. In the evening the President hosted a stag dinner ( all male) dinner in honor of the Saudi King. After the dinner the President and Vice President went to the home of Mr and Mrs Sargent Shriver who was holding a dinner an honor of the Ambassador of Denmark.
14 The President had breakfast with LBJ, Dean Rusk, Carl Kaysen, Walter Heller, Theodore Sorensen, Pierre Salinger and Myer Feldman. The President met with members of the Communication Workers of America. The President then held a Press Conference. After lunch the President met McGeorge Bundy and then Jerome Wiesner. The President also met with Supreme Court Justice William O Douglas. The President had a private dinner at the White House for Ben Bradlee and Max Freedman.
15 The President greeted a group of New York Herald Tribune Youth Forum. The President met the OAS task Force on Education, Science and Culture. The President met with Ambassador to Haiti. The President had a meeting with representatives of the World Council of Churches and the National Council of the Churches in Christ in the USA. The President met with Dean Rusk. The President met with John McCloy. He then met with David Lawrence the Governor of Pennsylvania and with Senator Joseph Clark. The President had an informal dinner at the White House for Joseph Alsops, Charles Bohlens and Roswell Gilpatics
16 President Kennedy began the day by greeting 300 foreign educators. The President then met with David Bell. The President had a meeting with General Curtis LeMay of the US Air Force. The President then met with a delegation of Lithuanian Americans. The President met with the Mayor of Atlanta. The President had an off the record meeting with Lady Jackson (alias Barbara Ward). The President then held a meeting of the Alliance of Progress. The President ended his day with meetings with his military advisors.
17 The President began his day with a meeting with Grant Sawyer the Governor of Nevada. He also met with Congressman Ralph Harding. The President later met Bill Manchester of Holiday Magazine and then met with journalist Mary McGrory. The President then flew to Glen Ora in Middleburg VA.
18 President and Mrs. Kennedy attend Mass at the Middleburg, Virginia, Community Church and return to Glen Ora.
19 The President returned to Washington. President Kennedy signed HR2470 to establish a Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial. The President meet with Abraham Ribicoff. He then had an off the record meeting with Arthur Goldberg Edward Day, John Macy, Theodore Sorenson, Myer Feldman and Elmer Staats. The President received the 1962 Brotherhood Award of the National Conference of Christians and Jews. The President met with a delegation from Brazil. The President held a luncheon in honor of Hugh Gaitskell member of the British Parliament. The President then met with Clark Thompson. He then met with the Ambassador from Greece. The President ended the day with a meeting with Dean Rusk.
20 The President returned to Washington in the morning. The President then met with the President's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board. The President then had an off the record meeting with Dean Rusk, Richard Goodwin and Arthur Schlesinger. Senators Fulbright and Hickenloper then met with the President as in and off the record meeting. The President met with Mayor Daley of Chicago. The President hosted a Luncheon commemorating the first anniversary of the Presidents inauguration. In the evening the President attended a dinner at the Washington celebrating one year of the Kennedy administration.
21 President Kennedy began his day with an off the record meeting on Laos. Attending the meeting were Rusk, McNamara, McCone, Harriman, Lemnitzer, Taylor, Clifton and Bundy. The President then had an off the record meeting on Laos with the Congressional Leadership. The President then had a meeting on Redevelopment programs in Illinois. The President met with Presidents of African American Colleges. The President next had a meeting to explore aspects of the space program. The President had a luncheon with LBJ, Rusk, Salingner, Feldman, Sorensen, Gordon and Bundy. After lunch the president gave a press conference. The President met with Congressman William Greene and with NY Post Journalist Max Lerner.
22 The President started the day with a meeting with General Maxwell Taylor and McGeorge Bundy. The President had lunch with Adlai Stevenson. The President then flew to Palm Beach.
23 The President flew up to Cape Canaveral. The President was given a tour of the facilities by astronaut John Glenn. The President presented medals to Colonel Glenn as well Robert Gilruth Director of the Mannes Spacecraft Center. In the afternoon the President returned to Palm Beach.
24 President Kennedy visits his father and goes boating with his family in Palm Beach, Florida.
25 The President attended Mass at St Edward's Church. In the afternoon the President went boating.
26 The President returned to Washington from Palm Beach on Air Force 1. On board were most of the Florida congressional delegation as well as a number of Mercury Astronaut, their families and other NASA personnel. On arrival at the White House the President had a reception in his office for the Mercury astronauts. The President began the parade for Colonel Glenn that traveled from the White House to the Capital. After saying goodbye to Colonel Glenn the President went the HEW building were he gave an address in honor of the 20th anniversary of the Voice of America. In the afternoon the President met with his advisors.
27 President Kennedy began the day with a Legislative Leaders Breakfast. The President then hosted a National Security Council Meeting on Nuclear Testing. The President met with the Ambassador of Luxembourg. The President had an off the record lunch with Miss Alison Patterson the Editor and Publisher of Newsday and William Wosterndiek the Editorial Director. The President had off the record meetings with the Ambassador of Great Britain, and later with Senator Carl Hayden. The President had additional meetings with his advisors on arms control and nuclear testing.
28 The President began his day with a meeting with the French Ambassador. He then met with the members of the Presidential Railroad Commission. The President met with Udall, Freeman, Bell, Heller, White and Feldman. He then met with the Ambassador of India. The National Reserve Officers Association called on the President and presented him with a Life time membership card. The President met with the Ambassador of Greece. The President had a meeting with John McCone, McGeorge Bundy, and Dean Rusk. The President greeted Robert Kennedy and his wife dropped by the office after a visit abroad. The President ended his official day with an off the record meeting with John Cauley of the Kansas City Star and Times.
