The final terrible event in the Civil War took place on the evening of April 14th 1865.

President Lincoln went to the Ford Theater to see a play a few days after the end of the war. During the course of the play John Wilkes Booth shot the President. Lincoln died the next morning. Booth was part of a larger conspiracy which tried to kill other members of Lincolns cabinet. The conspirators were all captured.
